The Medical Care for Children Partnership Foundation (MCCP Foundation) is proud to announce receipt of a $5,000 grant from the RealNetworks Foundation. Based in Seattle, Washington, the RealNetworks Foundation makes local community enhancement grants in areas where RealNetworks has offices, including the communities around Reston, VA. The RealNetworks Foundation supports programs in a variety of sectors but gives priority to those that respond to basic human needs and ensure that economically-disadvantaged people have equal access to services and opportunities.
Margery Leveen Sher, executive director of the MCCP Foundation announced the grant saying, “We are honored to receive this grant which will help to ensure that uninsured children will have access to dental and medical care that they otherwise simply would not.” The RealNetworks Foundation engages employees of RealNetworks, Inc. by inviting them to volunteer as part of their Grant Review Team. This team reviews grant applications, makes site visits, and through a deliberative process reaches consensus on which applications to recommend for funding. “The level of due diligence that the RealNetworks Foundation demonstrates is impressive,” said Leveen Sher. “Beyond the funding itself, receiving this highly competitive grant is meaningful because it represents confidence in our work, and that is extremely important to us.” “Our Team values measurable community impact,” said John Braynard, one of the members of the RealNetworks Foundation’s Grant Review Team. “But, beyond the metrics, hearing the stories of how the MCCP Foundation has helped little kids is very touching.”
MCCP Foundation funds health care for the children of uninsured working families in Fairfax County. Despite being one of the wealthiest counties in the nation, there are many thousands of children in our community who don't have access to doctors and dentists when they need them. This is a critical problem. Good health is essential to school success, and for attaining the foundation for a successful life. MCCP Foundation is a proven model of a public/private partnership that works to solve an urgent community problem.
