Peggy Fox listens as a former MCCP child, a now successful and healthy adult, tells his story.
MCCP brought health care relief to many deserving families with this year's 'Walk of Fame' Awards Celebration, held at the Westfields Marriott Hotel on Saturday, April 5th. Sponsors, guests, and partners gave thousands of dollars to help support children who are not eligible for federal or state health insurance. Peggy Fox of WUSA-9 News served as mistress of ceremonies for the event and honorees included Dr. Alan Merten, George Mason University President; Sally Merten, longtime MCCP Advisory Council member; Randy Norton, CEO and Michael Ranney, President of Great American Restaurants; Aetna Corporation; and Dr. Carla Epps, Kaiser Permanente Pediatrician.
A 'Studio for the Stars' VIP reception kicked off the event, followed by a silent auction where guests bid on goods generously donated by businesses and individuals from across the metropolitan DC area. Guests then followed 'the red carpet' into the exquisite ballroom, where they enjoyed dinner and the awards ceremony. The evening closed with entertainment and dancing to music by 'The Odyssey Band.' Dr. Alan Merten, President of George Mason University and Sally Merten, MCCP Advisory Council Member, will be hosting a reception at their home in Virginia on Wednesday, May 7th, 2008, to thank sponsors for their support of the 2008 MCCP 'Walk of Fame' Awards Celebration.
